Dear Zack,
My name is Shane Pogue, I am a 20 year old college student in Phoenix, AZ. Now don't jump to conclusions because I live in Arizona. My personal beliefs sit way to the left, and I too am against this SB 1070. Our Governor Jan Brewer is incompetent and should be voted out this Nov. This bill does not reflect the true thoughts and ideas of the state, if anything it is the exact opposite of what we as residents truly feel. At any college out here, or university, U of A, ASU, NAU Grand Canyon, you will find dozens, upon dozens of students who strongly disagree with this bill. Yes, there are some idiots in this state that staunchly support this blasphemous bill, but it in all reality is a small percentage. We haven't been able to find someone, or something to rally around and start causing a stir and raise eyebrows and possibly get this repealed. There are a lot of older folk out here that have very conservative beliefs, which sadly we are out numbered by, but you never hear from them.
I am asking you, and I am trying to appeal to your reason with this letter. I am asking you to lift your Sound Strike, please hear me out on this. Stop this Sound Strike, and come to Phoenix, Flagstaff, Tucson, or anywhere in this state and see the oppressed, and see the masses that are against it. There is no point in having a concert 400 miles away to protest this horrendous bill. I recently spent close to $500 to see Rise Against in California, because I fear not seeing my favorite band for a very long time because of this strike. I would do it again, but I'm a college student, and money is very tight. It is wrong to make us who are standing against 1070 here have to travel to see our favorite band and spend money we may not have to see them. We have had no control over this.
I know I am not the only one out in this state of no rain that would like you and Rage, and all of the Sound Strikers to come here and rally the base that is in hiding because we live in fear out here. If anything go up to Flagstaff which is a really, really liberal part of state, there's no racist sheriff, and it's much cooler than Phoenix. As I mentioned before, I am not the only person in this state that feels this way. We as residents see so much wrong with this bill, and want to fight against it, but we don't have a true leader, or figure to follow. If anything this strike is showing that we have no support from the musicians that we love. Please don't abandon us like our elected officials have done. Don't let two wrongs make another. Help us raise our fists, and our voice.
I will admit I am not a Rage fan, but I am a huge Rise Against fan and would do anything to see that band because of what they mean to me, and how they changed my life so greatly in so many positive ways. I'm not the only one in this state that feels this strongly about this band, and your band too. So please, re-think the Sound Strike, and please come out to Arizona and voice your opinion here, we will support it and help prop us up and show that there is still some good will out here in this cold world. Thanks.
